Emma  Yong

Actress, Singer. A star of her country’s stage and screen, she was best known as a member of the popular group The Dim Sum Dollies. Raised in Singapore, she attended the upscale Raffles Girls School and Raffles Junior College where she was active in theatre. Emma gradually began a career on the local scene and in 2002 joined with Selena Tan and Pam Oei to form The Dim Sum Dollies who became and remained a ubiquitous part of the Singapore Cabaret, theatre, and even advertising world. Emma continued her own solo career, her credits including “Mammon, Inc.” (2002), 2005’s “Boeing, Boeing”, “Little Shop of Horrors” and “Cabaret” (both 2006), the 2010 “Wild Rice’s Beauty”, and 2011’s “Into the Woods”, an adaptation of “Cinderella” and other fairy tales. She was to earn special praise as a pedophile’s victim in the 2010 “Blackbird” while on the silver screen she appeared in the comedies “The Blue Mansion” (2009) and “Tua Seh Kai” (2011). Diagnosed with metastatic gastric carcinoma in January of 2011 Emma returned to work following chemotherapy but died of a recurrance of her illness. At her death a number of her performances were preserved on DVD.
