Actress. She was born as Maria Antonia Siegelinde Martha Lilitt Seubert in Java. She began her film career in 1918. In 1919, she worked for first time with Fritz Lang in his movie “Die Spinnen” (1919). Her second movie with Lang called “Harakiri” (1919) was followed by the leading role in the successful movie “Das Cabinet des Dr. Caligari” (1919). The 20’s confirmed her success, acting among others in “Toteninsel” (1920), “Der Richter von Zalamea” (1920), Fritz Lang’s masterpiece “Der müde Tod” (1921), F.W. Murnau’s “Phantom” (1922) and “Tartüff” (1925), “Orientexpress” (1927) and “Monte-Christo – Der Graf von Monte Christo” (1928). In the talkies, her most famous movies are “Das alte Lied” (1930), “Elisabeth von Österreich” (1931), “Der Kongress tanzt” (1931), “Die Tänzerin von Sanssouci” (1932), “Der Flüchtling aus Chicago” (1934) and “Der höhere Befehl” (1935). In 1931, she moved to the USA where she played in the movie “The Woman from Monte Carlo,” but returned to Germany. She continued her work until the 70s, appearing in “Die Söhne des Herrn Gaspary” (1948), “Buddenbrooks” (1959), “Die seltsame Gräfin” (1961), “Karl May” (1974) and “Geschichten aus dem Wiener Wald” (1979).
