Teddy Wilburn

Country Musiician. With brother Doyle, he made up one of the most succesful brother duos in country music history. They began their careers as children, along with older brothers Lester and Leslie and sister Geraldine, singing on street corners. The Wilburn Family was discovered in 1940 by Roy Acuff who brought them to the Grand Ole Opry. They performed their for six months until child labor laws forced them to leave the popular radio show. After stints in the Korean War, Teddy and Doyle revived their career and joined the Grand Ole Opry in 1953 and became succesful recording artists for Decca Records. Their hits for Decca included “Somebody’s Back In Town” “Trouble’s Back In Town,” “Hurt Her Once For Me,” among others. The Wilburn Brothers hosted their own syndicated television show through the 1960s and 70s, taking country music to places it had never been before. The Wilburns also owned a succesful publishing company and booking agency in Nashville and discovered a young mother from Washington State, developed her and made her a star…Loretta Lynn. They also discovered a teenager named Patty Ramey, who later became Patty Loveless. Teddy Wilburn continued to perform on the Grand Ole Opry following Doyle’s death in 1982 from cancer. His health began to decline in the 1990s. He suffered from PSP, the same illness that actor Dudley Moore battled.
